“Didn’t they see TERMINATOR?” – Military Drone Operations Expand

By HANNAH ROBERTS

The Obama administration is building a ring of secret drone bases in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula as part of an aggressive campaign against al Qaeda franchises in Somalia and Yemen.

One base for the unmanned aircraft is being established in Ethiopia and another has been installed in the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, US officials say.

A small fleet of ‘hunter-killer’ drones were again carrying out operations in the islands this month after an experimental mission demonstrated that the unmanned aircraft could effectively patrol Somalia from there.

Ethiopia is an important U.S. ally in the fight against al-Shabab, the militant group that controls much of neighbouring Somalia.

The U.S. military also has flown drones over Somalia and Yemen from bases in the African nation of Djibouti, the Washington Post reported.

Meanwhile the CIA is building a secret airstrip in the Arabian Peninsula to deploy drones over Yemen.
The White House declined to comment on the report.
