There are No Magic Shortcuts to Genuine Human Love and Caring

There are No Magic Shortcuts to Genuine Human Love and Caring

“I think America’s greatest moral failure in my lifetime has been that we … still don’t abide by that … basic precept in Matthew that: ‘whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.’ And that notion of − that basic principle applies to poverty. It applies to racism and sexism. It applies to, you know, not … thinking about providing ladders of opportunity for people to get into the middle class.”

Hawaii senators hold prayer despite vote to end it

HONOLULU – A group of nine Hawaii senators held hands, bowed their heads and sought God’s blessing Wednesday, signaling that they’ll still pray despite a vote last week to abandon official invocations.

Fears of court challenges compelled the state Senate to end prayers, making it the first legislative body in the nation to do so.

Islam and the Bane of a Nation: Part II – Islam at the Gates

Islam and the Bane of a Nation: Part II – Islam at the Gates

Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

Rights, Liberties, and Romans 13

Rights, Liberties, and Romans 13

For centuries the book of Romans, chapter 13, has been used to extinguish the flames of liberty. It has been misused to such an extent in fact, that it has become the favourite passage of dictators.

When the State couldn’t beat early Christianity it decided to join in. Soon the floors of Roman tax collection offices had Romans 13 inscribed, and slaughter in the name of Christ began. Hitler also used the passage, claiming that churches should take care of heavenly matters, leaving earthly matters to him. More recently, Mugabe’s totalitarian government shamelessly played the Romans 13 card.

Islam and the Bane of a Nation

Islam and the Bane of a Nation

In the wake of the “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy (articles which can be found here, here, and here) it may be time to look at this through a larger context of Islam and the Global War on Terror. I sometimes wonder if it has now officially morphed in to an all out war on Islam. Maintaining The Liberty Voice website is an unpaid gig I do for my desire to see a counter balance to the mainstream media echo chamber. Daily I get off work , drive home and listen to Sean Hannity yammering on and on about Sharia Law, “The Ground Zero Mosque” and Iran and nuclear weapons and linking all three together. For weeks and weeks this has been going on and seems to be his only topic of conversation, at least between the times of 4:30 – 5:00 EST. Since Sean Hannity wants to play connect the dots while skipping over a dot the size of the Nemesis star, I’ll take it upon myself to dispel some of the popular Neoconservative talking points in regards to the Cordoba House. I do encourage readers to check out the hyperlinks above for some specifics on the imagery being used by Neoconservative commentators. But first, lets play connect the dots using the quickly established conventional wisdom of talk radio and Fox News.

Fox News co-owner funded ‘Ground Zero mosque’ imam: report

The second largest shareholder in News Corp. — the parent company of Fox News — has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to causes linked to the imam planning to build a Muslim community center and mosque near Ground Zero in Manhattan, says a report from Yahoo!News.

According to the report from Yahoo!’s John Cook, Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who owns seven percent of News Corp., “has directly funded [Imam Feisal Abdul] Rauf’s projects to the tune of more than $300,000.”

Cook reports that Prince Al-Waleed’s personal charity, the Kingdom Foundation, donated $305,000 to Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow, a project sponsored by two of Rauf’s initiatives, the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative, which is building the Manhattan mosque.

The “Ground Zero Mosque”

The “Ground Zero Mosque”

I have tried to remain quiet on this issue in the hope that common sense would prevail. However, since it seems that what is a very simple matter is being hijacked for political expediency, I can no longer in good conscience remain silent.

As a Libertarian, the ground zero mosque issue is not really an issue. The Constitution protects the religious rights of all religions and the right not to believe. The Constitution also protects the rights of organizations and individuals to own and administer legally owned property. The laws regarding the regulation and enforcement of zoning, something I often don’t agree with, have permitted the use of this building by the organization wanting to build a center there. Everything else is irrelevant.

Hysteria about the mythical ground zero mosque

Hysteria about the mythical ground zero mosque

This week the conservative echo chamber is buzzing with righteous outrage over the fact that Muslims are building a “mosque” at ground zero. This is an insult to those died on that fateful day. How dare they! Palin called on Muslims to “refudiate” the building of it. Newt Gingrich, Rick Lazio and even the Anti-Defamation League have condemned it. Emails are flying and the blogosphere is lit up like a Christmas tree in Times Square. It’s even been implied that Muslims are trying to impose Shariah law on innocent Americans.
