I had made preparations to record this evening’s public debate of local, state and federal candidates which was held in a publicly-funded local school. But evidently, as a premise for Tiberi’s appearance, Tiberi agreed to come only if sponsoring groups would agree that no recording devises would be permitted–without an exception granted even to the press. The question is, if Pat Tiberi exercised his influence to abridge the freedom of the press right in his home district, could he be trusted to defend it when he goes back to Washington DC?

Statistically, we each have 435 times greater likelihood of influencing our Congressman than our President. Here in the 12th Congressional district, we must put someone in the people’s House who will speak for the people. The House of Representatives was structured in the Constitution to be the people’s bridge to Washington. But with Tiberi as “our Congressman” we have a bridge to nowhere.

Central Ohio residents have been treated to yet more of the Columbus Dispatch Printing Company’s (CDPC) ‘fair and balanced’ judgment. Pat Tiberi, a Republican currently holding the 12th Congressional seat at the People’s House, has gotten the local daily printing company’s endorsement for Congress.
Hopefully, CDPC readers will remember the past ‘judgment’ of the company’s endorsements–including George W. Bush for president in both 2000 and 2004, when shortly before the 2004 election, even the CDPC seemed to know better. In the midst of this latest fill-in-the-blank-shock-and-awe (economic) crisis, that presidential endorsement has shown where the loyalties of the Wolfe family media empire really LIE. Much like Washington serves its lobbyists, the CDPC likewise serves the corporations who pay for their ads.
The fact that a local printing company’s public informational monopoly would find it within their job description to endorse a candidate before even informing the population of where all candidates stand on the issues that affect them most, is discrediting to not only to the endorsement, but raises questions as to the credibility of the CDPC itself.

Question: What would you do on foreign policy? John McCain claims he’s a really great guy to handle enemies…
Nader: None of these so-called enemies are on our tail. We’re in their back yard. They’re not in our back yard. As long as we’ve got bases and we’ve got missiles pointed at them, and we call them the ‘axis of evil’ and we invade them and bomb them–we’re going to have enemies.
It’s amazing they haven’t done more to us.
But we’ve exaggerated the threats. Like after 9/11 when Bush said, there are al Qaeda cells in the US and they’re well financed suicide agents. Well, how come they haven’t struck?
General Douglas MacArthur once said, “If government always exaggerates threats it gets more money and more power.”

Last week, I posted ten points (that were by no means exhaustive) for Congressional action immediately in the wake of the financial crisis now gripping our country. At that time, the Democratic leadership of Congress was prepared to adjourn the current legislative Session to campaign, without taking any action at all to put policies in place that protect U.S. taxpayers and the global community that has accepted U.S. financial leadership. Those ten points are as follows:

by Len Hart The Existentialist Cowboy The 9/11 Commission co-chairs claim that they were misled, perhaps deliberately, by the Bush administration and Pentagon brass. Because 911 was an act of mass murder overtly covered up by the Bush administration, the many lies by Bush amount to more than mere obstructions of justice or cover ups. [...]

This has been a solution looking for a problem.
But what it’s doing is it’s giving the federal government the opportunity and the right to track when you get on an airplane, where you are going, when you got there and when you got home; and I haven’t found a 10-year period when the federal government hasn’t violated individual civil liberties. This is information that should not be held by the federal government–because you can’t trust them. They’ve demonstrated that for the past 100 years and I suspect the next 100 years would be the same.

It is ‘We the People’ who must make change, and to do that we must grow our democracy through challenge, tolerance, respect and compromise–the achievements of open debate. And it is in that debate that we are not alone. The clear and responsible mind can recognize significant leaders of change and voices of a diverse nation.

Together, the welfare state and the warfare state have produced out-of-control federal spending, which has resulted in an endless cycle of financial, monetary, and economic crises, most recently demonstrated by the home-mortgage crisis and the 50 percent drop in the value of the dollar during the past five years alone.
Another adverse consequence – perhaps the most important – has been the demise of individual conscience among the American people, which has accompanied the rise of the welfare-warfare state.
